Thankful Thursday
I love lists. In fact, I make lists for just about everything — groceries/books read/books I want to read/writing submissions/you name it. Just the act of writing a list helps me prioritize and keeps me organized, at least somewhat; I’ve been known to forget to take the list with me, or misplace it altogether. Either way, I feel a little less scatterbrained once I’ve written out what needs to be done/what I want to accomplish.
This pretty little blue book helps even further. It’s a daily gratitude and intentional goal setting journal. Not only perfect for list-makers like myself, but for anyone who really wants to take a look at their life, where they’re going and where they want to be. One of the things I love about it is the cover itself. ‘Still growing’, for me, means we all continue to grow and learn no matter what we aim to accomplish, and there’s always room for improvement. Flipping back through the book after not picking it up for a month, I can see what I’m most thankful for and where my energy has been focused. Listing things I’m thankful for isn’t the hard part. It’s the ‘ten dreams I made happen’ and ‘the goal I am going to achieve first’. To me, these are like affirmations in a way, or putting out into the universe what you want to get back, but I always come to a shuddering halt when I see them because…well, fear is crippling. So is self-doubt, but I’m trying to overcome these things and give myself permission to say ‘I am going to write this book,’ or ‘I am a good writer,’ instead of ‘who do I think I am?’ and ‘what could I possibly have to say?’ Most of my dreams/goals for the past 20+ years have had to do with writing. They’ve shifted focus due to my own interests, due to life itself, but writing, or more specifically, writing and finishing a novel will always be the dream and the goal.
I like this quote from the book’s intro: “A goal is a dream with its sports bra on”.
As for the three things I’m thankful for today:
- The ability to stay home and do what I love most — write.
- Sunshine.
- Upcoming book bingo.
What are you thankful for? Do you make detailed lists for your goals?
